PS, check out this super cute trick-or-treat bag that we received from one of Matt's co-workers!

Anna and I spent a lot of time in Denver's airport on Thursday....let me explain. We were due to return to Chicago ORD on a 3pm flight out of Denver DIA, and when my cousin Kate dropped us off curbside around 130pm I thought we had tons of time to check our bags and get through security. Little did I know that our flight time had been changed to 210pm...that's right I was never notified by the airline that the flight had been moved up by 50 minutes. When I got to the ticket counter and the lady told me that it was too late to catch my flight and I would have to catch the next one, I immediately burst into tears. The next flight wasn't scheduled to depart until 7pm! What was I going to do in the airport (by myself with a brand new baby) for 6+ hours? Kate couldn't come back to get me because I had already checked her car seat, and I couldn't take an earlier flight on another airline because Matt couldn't pick me up and take me home without the car seat...I was stuck. Well, Ms. Perfect was PERFECT! She did a lot of sleeping in the Baby Bjorn and also had a little bit of tummy time with a view of the airplanes. Thank goodness I am nursing and that I had a big supply of diapers on hand, we didn't have to worry about running out of necessities. I was so happy when we finally arrived in Chicago!

My brother Patrick is in town this weekend from Denver. He was so excited to meet Anna, I thought that he might sit in the back seat with the baby when I picked him up from the airport! (he didn't) We have had a really nice weekend so far, and Pat has been squeezing in a lot of 'uncle time' He was officially baptised today when Anna barfed all over him!

Anna and I took a trip downtown today to The Office of Public Health for her birth certificate. We got a lot of practice using the baby bjorn since we walked around the loop for a while afterwards. She did great, and really liked being in the carrier. We have been using the boppy pillow as a seat for awake time the past few days, she really likes this too!

Anna had her first real bath last night. She was screaming at the top of her lungs for about an hour for no particular reason, so we thought that we would give her a bath...an occasion when she usually cries. (We have only been able to give her sponge baths so far because she still had her umbilical cord stump, but that fell off last week) Much to our surprise she got really quiet and seemed to like being in the warm water. Cool! And let me tell you how slippery she was when she got all soaped up, I am glad that I had Matt there helping me!

Congratulations to Ben and Kristin Livermore, who were married on Saturday. Matt and I had a great time at the wedding...the band was awesome. It was really nice to have our first night out since Anna was born. (thanks for babysitting mom!) I never got a picture of the bride and groom together, woops, but here are a few from the evening.

We have a had a great week so far! I was a little nervous at the beginning of the week, because I was going to be having my first days all alone with Anna. I was just hoping that I would be able to shower and feel like a normal person everyday...mission accomplished so far. Matt was able to take a few days off this week to help me go to and from doctor's appointments. (I was not allowed to drive until Wednesday!) It was really fun to have him around, and we puttered around town as a little family. We even did a little bit of fall clothes shopping for the two of us. By the way, we are totally not comfortable pushing the stroller around yet...poor Anna, I think I banged into about 50 racks in the stores. I have no idea how to get in and out of doors easily, and I am just overall clumsy. I must scream 'new mom' Haha!
We have had a lot of visitors since being home, which is so fun. If you are nearby, please feel free to stop by! This is a picture of Matt's cousins, Mason, Allie, and Maggie. They were able to visit last Sunday along with Uncle Scott, Aunt Kim, Aunt Kathy, and Kim's mom Sharron. Thank you for coming to see us!

We have been busy adjusting to parenthood the last week or so. It is really wild to have a baby in the house! Anna has been so good... sleeping decent, eating great, and a lot of awake time during the day. Lilly has done a fantastic job around the baby. I am so proud of her behavior and cannot be more pleased, keep it up Lilly! We are slowly making small trips out and about, but mostly spending a lot of time at home right now. Here we are the other night camped out on the couch for Grey's Anatomy.

Okay, it has taken me awhile to back to the blog, I hope that I will have a few moments more often to write! My house is finally getting sorta back in order, I am feeling better, and Anna is doing great. Phew.
Last Tuesday I had an OB appt, and I thought that I was going to have to scream and fight for an induction date...not exactly how it turned out. They hooked me up on a few machines when I got there and also did an ultrasound. The conclusion of all of the tests was that my amniotic fluid level was a little bit low. The Dr sent us right to labor and delivery from the office! Wowzers. We couldn't go home, stop for a bit to eat, or delay our trip over there in any way. It was kind of a surreal 3 block walk to the hospital. Once we arrived, Matt saw me into the room and then went home to let the dog out, get our bags and eat lunch. I am sure that his driving skills were appalling on the trip home and back! By the time he returned they had settled me in, broken my water, and started the Pitocin (the drug that makes you have contractions) I think that he was shocked that I wasn't that interested in chatting upon his return. I got my epidural, and then I was sitting pretty! My parents arrived in the afternoon, and Matt's parents arrived in the evening. By 8pm, I was 8 1/2 cm dilated and I saw the end in sight. I was hoping for the baby to arrive before midnight. Around 9pm I asked for a little bit more medicine in the epidural to get me through the rest of labor. Around 930pm, I had a never ending contraction, (it lasted over 3 minutes!) and the baby's heart rate dropped in half during that time. All of the sudden there were 10-15 nurses and doctors rushing into my room. They had me switching positions like crazy trying to get a positive response from the baby. That never happened and they ended up injecting me in the shoulder with medicine to stop the contraction, and the baby immediately responded positively. Phew. The decision was made that I had had enough and a c-section was necessary. It was really overwhelming because everything happened so quickly, and a c-section wasn't what I had been hoping for...BUT it was okay at the same time. I was calm and ready when they took me into the OR. Matt was a mess on the other hand! I saw pictures of him in his "moonsuit" a few days later. His face was white and expressionless, poor guy. About 15-20 minutes elapsed from the time the c-section was decided upon to when she was born at 9:59pm. Welcome Anna!
