Weekend Update

Well, we had a really nice weekend. My dad came downtown Saturday morning and we went out for breakfast at Wishbone. Matt and I have driven past Wishbone a hundred times, and we finally tried it out a few weeks ago...it is super good and has a southern flair so you can get things like sweet tea and grits. Yum. We spent the rest of the day taking a day trip to the brand new Cabella's store that just opened in Hoffman Estates. This place is huge! More camping/hunting/fishing gear than your mind can process! What is really cool though is all of the mounted (stuffed) animals that they have on display. Everything from deer to fish to bunnies to fox to sheep....it goes on and on. They even had a section of African animals, and they have a full sized African Elephant! It was amazing to see everything. We also made a stop at Babiesrus...can't go by there without stopping these days!

My mom came downtown today to see us. She arrived at noon to find me just up from a nap...woops. I slept horribly last night, so thought that I would get a nap in before she got here. We had a really nice lunch outside at Pompei on Taylor Street. Nothing fancy, but the food was good. We came home and watched the end of Cub's game, go Cubs go! Late this afternoon we made a few meals to freeze, a double batch of chili and some enchiladas. I have a feeling those will come in handy down the road! (thanks for the idea Shannon)

My mom snapped this picture of us before she left today. Lilly made her way into the picture too! This could be our last picture as a family of three.

Hello Due Date!

Well, today is the day...and still no kiddo. They shouldn't even give us preggo's these dates, it just messes with your mind. As many of you know, Matt's dad and grandfather are both OBs. Matt's grandfather used to add one week to first time parents due dates! Genius! Of course that was before all of the technology. These days you can just go online and plug in a little bit of information, and out spits your due date. I don't think Matt's dad could get away with that these days!
Next Dr appointment is on Tuesday morning, I'll keep you posted.

Cutting back

I have finally come to the realization that I should probably be slowing down a little bit as I near the end of my pregnancy. Yesterday was a looong day at work, and by the end of it I was ready to collaspe and cry. I was also convinced that I was in labor. (which ended up being not true, bummer) I am working half days today and tomorrow...and then I'll make a decision about working next week later on. So, now I have to figure out what to do with myself while I am sitting at home. Right now I am watching Oprah, which isn't so bad. But I know that I am going to have to keep myself somewhat busy to stay sane. Any ideas?

Another Comment

I was in the waiting room at the Dr's office this morning, and this non-pregnant gal walks in and checks in at the desk. Again, she is dressed cutely and she is skinny. (strike 1) Besides me, there is one other mom waiting, and she is HUGE and obviously about to pop. So the girl turns to her and says "Oh my gosh, you are soooo pregnant, when are you due?" (strike 2, never say to a preggo...you are soooo pregnant) And the mom goes on to say that she has two weeks left. (YES, she is due after me, and I look way better than her!!) They continue small talk for a moment, and the girl turns to me and says "Oh my gosh, you are pregnant too!" (strike 3) Luckily, they called my name right at that moment, and I was able to avoid the rest of the conversation with her...no offense. Bless her heart, but she is an OB office waiting room. Hello? Earth to skinny pants? Of course you are going to see lots of pregnant ladies!
Here is the update from today's appointment, sorry if it is TMI...too much information! I am currently 2cm dilated and also had my "membranes stripped" OUCH. This is just a fancy way of saying that they are trying to help my body along with this labor thing. I asked when we will discuss induction, and that will happen once my due date passes. I have another appointment scheduled for next Tuesday morning, but hopefully I won't have to go because she will already be here!

Final Bump Watch?

As promised...

Going, going, gone

We buy a lot of toys for Lilly, but sometimes the simplest things are the most entertaining. She loved this empty water bottle so much that she fell asleep with it!

Bears

It's feeling a little bit crisp outside, and we are enjoying the start of the football season! Even Baby G is in on the action.

Self portrait

Apparently we left our camera out on the counter last time the Hunt's were over at our place.

Still Pregnant

I was waddling my way from the train stop to my office this morning, and the most annoying thing happened. Well, first I should tell you that I pass a Gap and a Starbucks and everyday I look into each storefront with envy. So I am waddling, and this really cute gal about my age steps out of Starbucks. She was dressed in a fun tweedy type suit, with a nice necklace and she was just looking very 'fallish' in the crisp air with her mocha-frappa-latte whatever. Yes, I will admit that I was a smidge jealous of her cuteness and her carefree look. Until she opened her mouth. She looks at me as I am waddling by, and says in the MOST annoying high pitched voice: "Oh look! A cute pregnant lady!" I just smiled and kept on walking. Good thing for her that I had my sunglasses on, because my death stare would have killed her on the spot. Note to all readers: do not make similar comments to a preggo within a week of her due date, especially when you are looking really good yourself.

And speaking of the Gap, I am really looking forward to a little bit of new clothes shopping this fall. Of course everything in the store looks cute when I am walking by each day...this is because of the age-old rule...you always find cool stuff when you are not looking and you never find anything worthy when you are desperately looking.

On to the pregnancy.... All I have to say is: this HAS to end soon. And because of that fact, I am very happy. I'll try to post one last bump picture this weekend. (it's big!)

My Cousin (Buddy) and Me

Kate and I are just over 6 months apart, and we had a great time growing up together. She is the closest thing that I have to a sister, so I value our friendship/sisterhood/cousinhood tremendously. She lived in Kansas City until apx 6th grade, but then moved to Barrington which is 30 minutes from where I grew up in Crystal Lake. We often spent the night at each other's houses and did lots of fun, silly, and crazy things together....along with the occasional bad thing. (smoking cigarettes behind the grade school across the street...WHAT were we thinking???) We went our separate ways for college, me to IU and her to SMU, but we found ourselves together again in Chicago after graduation, YEA! We have since grown even closer to each other.

I was so excited to hear that Kate and her husband Dave were expecting a baby in Feburary 2007. As we prepped for that baby's arrival, Matt and I found ourselves expecting a baby too. The timing is unique because the kids would be the exact same age difference as Kate and I. You can only imagine our delight once we knew that they would both be girls!

I have the ultimate built-in reference guide in her...her going through everything pregnancy and baby related before me! Side note on her pregnancy...I have determined that she was pregnant one less month than me, which is TOTALLY unfair. How did I calculate this? She didn't figure out that she was expecting until apx 6-8 weeks in, where I knew apx 4-5 weeks in. And Lauren was born two weeks early, where it looks like this kid is never coming out of me. I estimate two weeks short on each side, so a month less than me!

Anywho, we have been really looking forward to raising these girls together....until she decided to up and leave me in my hour of need, I mean, until her husband transferred jobs. Did I mention that the new job is in Denver? We sobbed like babies on the phone to each other when we knew that their move was for sure. (yes, I was at work for this conversation. Thank goodness I have pregnany hormones to blame my tears on!)

We have come to the realization that we will survive despite the fact we will be 1000 miles apart, although barely. I have already booked a trip to Denver for the end of October so that we can spend a few days together, and she promises to help with midnight feedings so that I can get some extended rest while I am in town. I will also show off Baby G to all of our relatives that reside in Denver too. (Did I mention that I found an AA roundtrip fare for $108? Practically unheard of!) She will be back in Chicago a few weeks later, so it won't be too long between our visits this fall. Hopefully we will see each other again for either Thanksgiving or Christmas.

While this isn't exactly the master plan that I had built in my head (with the girls and all) I know that it will be okay this way too. So, Buddy...Cousin...Sister... I am sure going to miss having you around! Although I know that we will always be close at heart... and so will the girls.

Trouble with a capital T

Lilly has continued with her trouble making the past few days...I can't even bring myself to tell you what she has done. I took this picture of her (with our brand spanking new camera) so you all can think of her in a good light for me. She is pretty darn cute, no matter how naughty she gets!
In other news, Matt is officially a dorky dad. He got a spiffy new tripod to go along with the new camera...hehehe.

Jeans

Check out these cute jeans that arrived in the mail for Baby G yesterday! Thank you Kam and Nestor! They will be perfect for the fall weather that is on the way.
