World's Smallest Pony Ever

But there's no denying...it's there!

New Tradition

We had a wonderful Christmas day at our house in Chicago. Both of my parents came downtown to celebrate. My dad brought a turkey with him and he and Matt prepared it together. I think Matt learned a lot and now we can cook a turkey with confidence for future holidays! My mom arrived with side dishes galore and we sat down to an excellent meal to which we all contributed. Anna loved opening her gifts from us, Lilly, Santa, Grandma and Grandpa. She definitely got the hang of it and was tearing paper like a mad woman. Well, actually like a little lady because she would rip the smallest piece of paper off and then hand it to us. It went on and on: rip and pass, rip and pass, rip and pass. Our new tradition is watching Christmas Vacation. My brother was kind enough to get this as a gift for me, and we watched it on Christmas night after Anna went to bed. It has been a while since I have seen it, and it was just as I remembered. Funny. We decided that we will watch it each Christmas from here on out!

Current Obsession

Sad day for me

Update: It's not true!

I just heard the most disturbing news. I don't care that I am married, he's my dream man. (sorry Matt)

We went to Schubas on Saturday for a great kids concert. Ellis Paul started songwriting and singing for kids once his own children arrived. He tours around the country, so check the website to see if he will be in your area soon. The concert was great fun, especially since everyone was encouraged to dance and sing along. Anna definitely got in on the action and really enjoyed herself!

Crazy Fans

Okay, so my *crazy* husband Matt and Alison's *crazy* husband...also named Matt... went to DA GAME last night. I am not sure how they survived the cold weather, but they did. The game was seriously fun to watch on TV, I hope they enjoyed it in person too!

I found this interesting piece of news about the game:

Da Brrrrs: The hard souls who braved the weather at Soldier Field as the Chicago Bears beat the Green Bay Packers, experienced the coldest Bears game ever at the stadium. The 2-degree game tied a 1951 cold-weather record at Wrigley Field, but beat the previous Soldier Field record of 5 degrees, set in 1983. The Bears moved to the lakefront stadium in 1971.

Anna and Santa!

We headed to Woodfield mall last Saturday for a trip to see the man in red. I called to find out what time Santa opens...7AM, wow! While we didn't get there at 7, we did arrive before a lot of the stores opened up for the day. We waited in a very small line, took our picture, did some shopping, and we were home by noon. Sweet. I really wanted to take Anna to see Santa this year, and I am so happy that we went. We will have this photo and memory forever. We went into the mall thinking we had a 50/50 shot of a screaming picture, so we were thrilled with the outcome. Merry Christmas!

A new choir selection

A fun forward I received via email:

Here's a new piece for your choir to sing........
"Get packin', Rod Blagojevich," (to the tune of "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen")

Get packin', Rod Blagojevich
The state's in disarray
The Tribune wants you unemployed
At least by Christmas Day.
The TV pundits want your head
Could there be pay to play?
Oh, tidings of comfort and joy
Save Illinois!
Oh, tidings of comfort and joy.

Good riddance Rod Blagojevich
Your Elvis look's inane,
The Senate's mad, so's Lisa's dad.
You drive us all insane.
Our transit's broke, the state's a joke,
The Tollway's one big pain.
Oh, tidings of comfort and joy
Save Illinois!
Oh, tidings of comfort and joy.

Good luck old Rod Blagojevich
The feds have quite a place.
Fitzgerald's poked his nose around
And if he has a case,
George Ryan's moving stuff around
Creating extra space.
Oh, tidings of comfort and joy
Save Illinois!
Oh, tidings of comfort and joy.

Climbing UP!

I mean, seriously...this child is going to give me a heart attack before the end of the year. My little monkey has been climbing on everything lately. The couch, the bed and now she has figured this MOST dangerous trick out.

When I dip, you dip, we dip

Look who's a dipping fool! She dips and licks, dips and licks. I think she would dip everything if we allowed it. So consider this your fair warning, we have a double dipper on our hands.

Check out the shoes on this sister! Believe me... they are not hers, they are mine...but she wishes she has pointy toe flats with bows! She is so proud of them and she was having a blast clanking all around the house this morning.

(A rare) Dinner Out

We went to the Dixie Kitchen & Bait Shop last night with my dad and a family friend, Miriam Swanson. It's a fantastic place located in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago. Miriam wanted to know if Obama would be there since he resides in Hyde Park. We didn't see him :) We had a southern style dinner of johnny cakes, shrimp creole, crayfish etouffe, gumbo, and smothered steak. Wow, it was so good is all that I have to say. Thanks to Matt for the recommendation, this place was worth the trip south!

Thanksgiving 2008

We celebrated Thanksgiving on Thursday with my mom, who came downtown for the afternoon and evening. We enjoyed a non-traditional main course of lamb shanks but we tried to stick to the theme with the sides: sweet potato casserole, green beans, salad and pumpkin pie. It was very yummy and we were glad to be with family. We left for Peoria bright and early on Friday morning, arriving well before noon. It was nice to have Claudia and Mike to ourselves for a few minutes before the rest of the family arrived for a huge turkey dinner. We stuffed ourselves (pun intended) and then relaxed while playing games. We spent Saturday with Jack and Nick preparing for another meal! Matt grilled awesome steaks for us and Jack tackled homemade mashed potatoes...a first for him and they were excellent! Sunday was fun in the snow before we headed home.

Matt's Deer 2008

I've been waiting to post so that Matt would have an opportunity to tell you all about the deer he got two weekends ago. But he's really slow (read: doesn't remember how to post) so I'll post for him :) All I know is that this year's hunt brought very cold temps and long days sitting in the deer stand. He shot this big 8 pointer on Sunday after watching him fend off 2 other bucks, then get hot and heavy with a doe...if you know what I mean. From what I hear it was a great hunt, and we have a lot of venison coming our way.

Baby Mama

Anna has taken on the temper tantrum phase of toddler hood with great enthusiasm on her part, let me give you an example. She came up to me in the bathroom while I was getting ready for work the other morning. She had her hands up asking to be picked up. I didn't want to pick her up, so instead offered her my hand to walk along side me. She melted into a puddle on the floor, and she cried and she kicked her legs. I'll call this "baby attention seeking behavior", or BASB for short :) So, I walked out of the bathroom without her and went to the kitchen. She then proceeds to stop crying, walk up to the kitchen, finds me, and lays down on the floor. And then she starts crying and kicking again. Holy moly, talk about drama! This girl has the game all figured out... She not all tantrums all of the time though, I promise. She is a ton of fun and she is busy busy busy, as always. These pictures are from tonight, during one of the special times she sat down with me one on one.

Latest Read

I just finished The Longest Trip Home by John Grogan, and it was a great read! You may recognize his name from his other bestselling book: Marley and Me. (which was also fabulous by the way) He has a wonderful writing style that makes reading his story effortless, and it doesn't hurt that he tells hilarious tales from his youth too. The book takes us from his youth, explaining his parents extreme belief in the Catholic faith and finishes in his parent's elderly years. Of course, just like Marley and Me, this book is a tearjerker. I was a crying fool last night as I finished the final pages close to midnight laying next to my sleeping hubby and dog. I highly recommend it, and if anyone wants to borrow my copy...you are more than welcome!

Chokecherry Trees

What's that you ask? Yes, chokecherry trees...we got 2 of them in our 'parkway' (that grassy area between the sidewalk and street) today courtesy of the City of Chicago. Wowzers! Our condo association realized a while back that we have a large tree-less stretch right in front of our building, so we called 311 and asked for a few trees. And it worked, who knew? Now the only question is why chokecherry instead of maple, ash, birch, or oak? It just seems a little random... right? At least we will have fun spring cherry blossoms to enjoy, and I understand the cherries are good for jams and pies... not so sure that I will go there though.

Cleaning Machine

We are STILL sick in our house, if you can believe it! I can't wait for this all to be over so that we can get back to life as 'normal'...whatever that is. Here's some snapshots from about a week ago, our cleaning machine. Thanks for the help Anna, I'll add it to your chore list in the future!

Holiday Spirits

I have been meaning to post about this, but Shannon beat me to the punch! What heck I'll post anyway... Straight No Chaser, the men's a cappella group from Indiana University, just reassembled, recorded, and released their first national album called Holiday Spirits. And you guessed it, it's a Christmas CD! My dad preordered (he's a super fan) from Amazon and surprised me with a copy a few weeks ago; it is super fun and super good. Yes, I admit...I have listened to Christmas music already. Matt and I (well maybe just me) hold a special place in our hearts for the guys. Those of you who attended our wedding may remember that the group gave a special performance during our reception! So if you liked them, you may want to think about ordering this new CD. It would also be a great gift. Let the holiday season begin!

Busy Little Bumblebee

A few pictures of Anna the Bee. We walked around my dad's neighborhood and showed her off a little bit on Halloween night, and that was a lot of fun. She didn't get any candy this year (just too young) but she did enjoy the goldfish that one family was passing out! ps, that is not Lilly on my lap! It is a neighborhood dog who looks JUST like Lilly!

Walking What?

I am very sorry for the lack of posts, and for the lack of a Halloween costume picture post! (seriously, I think Claudia might disown me soon :) ) But I have a very good excuse, and it's called Walking Pneumonia! Yes, that's right...after a week of being very sick, a trip to the ER and countless nights of no sleep... I finally have a diagnosis. I am on the mend, and I will be posting all about Halloween and other Gibson activities very soon!

Pocket Surprise

Grandpa, what did you put in my pocket?
Hmmm, I think I can see it.
It's not coming out.
Got it! A cell phone, I LOVE cell phones! Thanks.

Lazy Weekend

Lilly's lazy bum on the couch...seriously...how can that be comfortable.

Anna's new party shoes. She loves them!
Mom...I can help with the cleaning!
We spent this weekend around town and around the house. Anna is recovering from a small cold, so we didn't venture out a lot. It was actually kind of nice to be at home. We were able to catch up on cleaning, repairs, groceries, and sleep. All of the not so fun things that have to be done...well, except for the sleep part!
